How do you celebrate in the midst of pain? I have often wondered that myself. It's not something you give much thought to. It's something that just happens. The question usually arises when you find yourself right in the middle of it. The pain that is. Pain that comes from a situation or something major going on in your life.
Encouraging quote of the day: "I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars" Og Mandino
We are right smack in the middle of pain due to the loss of our son. I just celebrated another year of life and another year of being married to the love of my life. Yes, celebrated with a heavy heart. I think when you go through something major like so many families do it's how you handle it that matters. You can choose to rejoice in the little things or let the major ones overcome and consume you. It is not easy after losing your loved one. I can contest to that. I often think about how Jacob handled his journey. He always seemed to look at the bright side of every situation.
I'm not saying he never had a bad day. He just always made the best of it. We can learn so much from our children especially when enduring such a hard journey. When children are battling cancer, it doesn't just affect them. It affects the whole family. The separation that takes place is unbearable.
The picture that I'm sharing with you is from last year. I celebrated my birthday at the hospital with Jacob. He gave me his signature big hug and sang Happy Birthday. I will never forget that day. All of us at one point celebrated our birthdays at the hospital but never complained. We rejoiced in being together no matter where we were. I encourage you to always see the brighter side of things just the way Jacob did. When you think you are done and have nothing else left, dig a little deeper and I'm sure you can overcome. We have to dig every single day to get through but that is something we learned from our courageous son. So sit back and take a deep breathe enjoy the sunshine on your face and get ready to see the stars.
