You may be wondering "What has Jacob's Ladder Foundation been up to lately?" So I thought I would give you a quick update and let you in on some great ideas we have for the foundation. As you all know, this foundation was birthed from the heart of a 14 year old undergoing the most difficult journey anyone could go through.
Jacob was an amazing warrior and kept smiling through his journey. As a parent, it is difficult to see your child go through the discomfort, pain and uncertainty that comes along the way. We are helping families as they go through the same path we went through. We want to assist them with the challenges that you encounter during this time.
We have assisted three families so far with financial assistance and are about to assist another family in a matter of days. As soon as I get the request or the application, my heart gets excited because I know that we are reaching out to someone in need. Usually a parent has to stay home with their child especially when they undergo a bone marrow transplant. " Jacob's Ladder Foundation" will be another source for them to reach out to when they need financial assistance for groceries, lodging, or to purchase medical supplies or prescriptions. Not too many foundations are available to be able to assist and the need is far greater. Thank you so much for helping us assist these families! By you giving to Jacob's Ladder Foundation, you are assisting families with the basic needs that sometimes we don't think about.
Through this foundation, one of our greatest goals is to bring a smile to the child that is fighting for their life. Jacob always had that smile and his concern for others was to help them be able to smile also. In the picture above, you see him playing on his iPad and using his headset Beats. Those are two of the things we wouldn't leave home without when going to the clinic or hospital. He was blessed by loving people and was able to have them to enjoy during his visits. We were able to donate two mini-ipads to the hospital so that other kids are able to enjoy them as well. We purchased 11 lego sets for them and were able to take blankets to the hospital for the children. Jacob was known for his Cowboys blanket and it always kept him comfortable in the hospital which is usually chilly. Our plan is to bring fun activities for the children when they are in the hospital since they are usually in there for some time.
We have been busy getting our care packages together and hope to deliver some to the hospital in June. We also hope to bring meals on a quarterly basis to families. Our first one is being planned for the month of June as well.
Our next event will be a family 5k fun run in September. As soon as we have more information, we will post it on our website so stay tuned! This will be a fun time to get together and at the same time raise funds for this great cause.
Again from the bottom of our hearts, Oscar and I would like to thank those that have given towards this great cause. If you have not been able to and wish to give now or know someone that does, you may donate by going to our Home page and selecting the donate button. You can also select to make a recurring monthly donation. No amount is too small and please know that you are being a part of something far greater.
