This is the first year we participated in Relay for Life as a team. In 2013, we attended with our son Jacob as a supporter of the fight he was in.
If any of you have never been, it is a very touching event. You have families supporting their loved ones as they continue in the battle and you also have some honoring and remembering their loved ones. It can be very emotional and at the same time you can see and feel how everyone comes together for one cause......to continue honoring our loved ones who fought the fight, celebrating those fighting in the present, and looking forward to a future with no cancer.
We registered as Jacob's Ladder Foundation team and even though we got rained out, we were still able to participate for a couple of hours. My sister and niece came out to support despite the looming thunderstorms nearby.
The track was lined up with luminaries in memory of someone or in honor of those actively still fighting. We made a special one in honor of our great warrior and son Jacob........
Again, it was a very touching and emotional night. Not one day passes, where our loved ones are not missed and their absence is so real and hard to endure. That is why it is so important to participate. People are fighting every day, 24 hours, all over the world. It doesn't stop in-between. There are no breaks. Relay for Life participants walk the track the whole night for that reason alone.
Our team sold brisket sandwiches to raise money to go towards this cause. We only sold a few since the event was cut short due to the rain. We had to pack up in a hurry before the lightning got close.
It was still a great event to be a part of and we hope to participate again next year.
