Lauren is a junior at Belleville East and a member of the school’s marching band. The scholarship will allow Lauren to travel with the band to Tampa, Florida where she will be performing at half time during the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, 2011. One of Lauren’s teachers described her this way:
“Lauren is a band geek. When I use the phrase band geek, I'm referring to the individuals at this school with the most school spirit who put in more hours practicing then most athletic teams. Balancing band with all of the other activities she is involved in and her classes is a skill that she will use for the rest of her life. Lauren is a part of this hard-working group and for that I have the utmost respect for her. I am aware she is going for a band scholarship. I assure you there is no better representative than this young lady. Lauren will maintain her attitude and spirit and carry out her duties as a student and performer to the best of her abilities every day. I give her my highest recommendation and know that she will represent herself along with this institution and any groups she is a part of with a great deal of respect and pride.”
Like so many other families, Lauren’s family has been a victim of this economy. Without this scholarship, Lauren would not have been able to attend. It is with great pride that we award this scholarship to such a worthy young lady who, by the way, was a friend of Jacob. Congratulations Lauren, and good luck.
